We’re once again wondering WHATEVER HAPPENED TO VIC DIAZ? in 1965’s OPERATION C.I.A., which features Burt Reynolds as Mark Andrews, an agent sent to Saigon (here played by Thailand) as the Vietnam war is heating up in order to stop an assassination. While this Bond-inspired spy film from director Christian Nyby is pretty uneventful, it features a great supporting villainous turn from Vic Diaz, and some two-fisted fun from a mustache-less Reynolds. LET’S WATCH!

After the death of his mother, a young, thin, slightly gawky man in mourning suddenly finds her back from the grave with a hunger for human flesh and must keep her out-of-sight while simultaneously trying to woo his new girlfriend in a series of comedic sequences. No, it’s NOT Peter Jackson’s DEAD/ALIVE (aka BRAINDEAD), it’s the sometimes startlingly similar ED AND HIS DEAD MOTHER from 1993, which leans a lot heavier on goofy humor and much, much, MUCH lighter on graphic violence. This one has a devoted cult around it, and stars a post-RESERVOIR DOGS Steve Buscemi, as well as Ned Beatty, an incredible John Glover and Jon Gries in supporting roles. LET’S SEE WHAT WE THOUGHT!

The great character actor Dick Miller passed away on January 30th, 2019 at the age of 90, leaving a legacy of more than 180 films. On You Don’t Know Dick, we’re going to – with the help of friends and special guests – look at the film and television work of this tremendous performer, and try to get to the bottom of what made him such a special presence in so many films.

On our first episode, we’re looking at the Roger Corman (sorta) directed gothic horror THE TERROR from 1963, starring Jack Nicholson, Boris Karloff, Sandra Knight and Dick Miller.

The film is available in various public domain versions, but the best available to watch for free is this version from The Film Detective:

It’s the first episode of HOW DO YOU DO, FELLOW KIDS?: THE CINEMA OF STEVE BUSCEMI where we’ll be looking non-chronologically at the film work of beloved character actor Steve Buscemi.

We start our journey with Buscemi’s feature length directorial debut: 1996’s TREES LOUNGE

It’s the first episode of Cinema Smorgasbord, and we’re kicking off with WE DO OUR OWN STUNTS: A  JACKIE CHAN PODCAST! This podcast is, as you might have guessed, devoted to the life and work of actor JACKIE CHAN, including his vast filmography, his recorded work, cartoons, video games and so much more!

On the premiere episode we go back to 1971 for Jackie Chan’s very first starring role: CUB TIGER FROM KWANG TUNG (a.k.a LITTLE TIGER OF CANTON). Jackie was only 17-years-old when he appeared in the starring role of Hsiao Hu, but had been acting regularly since he was a child; even appearing in Shaw Brothers classics COME DRINK WITH ME and A TOUCH OF ZEN!

But that’s not all! We follow it up with a discussion of MASTER WITH CRACKED FINGERS, a re-edited version of CUB TIGER that added in 50% new footage using a Jackie Chan double and appearances by Chan regulars Yuen Siu Tien and Dean Shek.
